Anand

Anand

When Anand first enrolled in the Tutors United programme, it was with the goal of getting him to focus more on Maths. Well, this goal was definitely reached and through Anand’s and his parents’ commitment and almost 100% attendance across 3 terms, he went from strength to strength.

In Maths, Anand’s progress was undeniable with him scoring 63.9% on his final assessment compared to 38.8% on his initial test.

Anand’s hard work and obvious commitment to coming to tuition were truly reflected by these brilliant results, but his attainment in Maths was not all that improved.

Rebecca, his Tutor, said that “Anand was an absolute pleasure to teach; seeing him progress with confidence throughout the term was rewarding! Throughout the term, he gained confidence through problem-solving and gained skills of communication that helped his thinking and reasoning. Whereas at the start of the programme he was eager to finish, he started to take pride in checking over his work and presenting his working out. He was not afraid to ask when he might be wrong, which is key to learning! Well done Anand!”

Anand is a testament to the academic and personal progress that can be made when students are placed in a fun and positive working environment, like the Tutors United classes.

With his fabulous attendance record and parental support, we are sure that Anand will do amazingly well as he starts secondary school.

We are all really proud of Anand’s progress at Tutors United.

“I like coming here because it helps you learn new stuff and it helps you to be the best in the class in school. It’s fun to meet new people and make new friends.”

Anand, West Hendon

Farida

Farida

Farida joined the programme in September 2015 as she entered Year 4.

Farida has made wonderful progress in English this last year. At the start of the programme, Farida scored a 4E on her initial English assessment and progressed by 4 sub-levels (1.1 levels) exceeding the national expected rate of progression of 2 sub-levels per academic year to achieve a 5S. Farida also lives in a household where English is spoken as an additional language (EAL), and as previously stated, those with EAL are more likely to underperform in comparison to their non-EAL peers. Therefore, Farida should be exceptionally proud of her achievements, because the Tutors United team sure are. Well done Farida!

“Farida remained engaged during the lesson. She enjoyed watching the videos and participated well during the lesson. She worked well independently and in pairs, showing great team working skills. She asked for additional help when needed.”

Romaysa

Romaysa

Romaysa’s dad originally enrolled her onto the programme in September 2017 to help her improve in both Maths and English. Despite being in Year 4 and working with learning material aimed at a year 5, Romaysa has shown amazing progress in both subjects.

Most children should expect to go up by 2 sub levels in English in a year, but Romaysa has done amazingly well and gone up by 1 whole level plus another sub level. This is fabulous progress particularly considering English is not hers or her family’s first language.

In her end of Term 1 English assessment, she wrote about a mysterious hole found in a book shelf inside a big haunted house. ‘If you go through it…you will pass away.’

Priyanka, her English Tutor, says that “Romaysa is a confident student, who is always eager to learn and participate in the lesson and she has demonstrated her increasing proficiency in identifying features of mystery stories.”

But her hard work and progression doesn’t stop there. After just 7 hours of Maths tuition, her scores have improved, going from 35% in her initial assessment to 65% in her end of Term 1 assessment; something to be incredibly proud of.

Her dad, Othman has said “I’m very happy with the tuition [as is] Romaysa [and] we wish it was 2 days a week.” This is a wonderful testament to the impact of this tuition class on Romaysa and Tutors United are really proud of all her hard work so far. Well done Romaysa!

Reneiro

Reneiro

Reneiro’s journey with Tutors United began in September 2016 and we welcomed him back in September. Despite finding it hard to focus in class, Reneiro has consistently persevered and has continued to make progress in Maths and English.

In his end of term 1 maths assessment he got 20%, an impressive leap from the 0 marks that he got in his initial assessment. As well as this, he also improved by several points on his English assessment. Reneiro’s commitment and impressive attendance record has also helped him gain confidence and reflects his enjoyment of the programme.

Coretta, Reneiro’s Mum is really pleased with the tuition’s impact on her son: “My son’s confidence has improved since he started attending tutoring with Tutors United. He used to be very anxious before undergoing testing but his tutors make him feel confident within himself that he now hardly ever gets anxious before tests at school or at Tutors United.”

Darlene, Reneiro’s Maths Tutor has gone onto echo his growth in confidence:  “Reneiro has truly grown in his confidence with maths over the last few weeks and it has been a pleasure seeing his excitement when speaking about topics he understands well. He is making great progress!”

We are all really impressed with all your hard work Reneiro, well done!

Kyle

Kyle

Kyle, a year 5 student, was enrolled on to the programme by his mother in September 2017.

Kyle has made wonderful progress in English this last year. At the start of the programme, Kyle scored a 4S on his initial English assessment and progressed by 2 sub-levels meeting the national expected rate of progression of 2 sub-levels per academic year to achieve a 5E. As already mentioned, Kyle also came in 1st place in the Term 1 assessment project.

As many children from a black background across England ‘were the lowest performing groups’, having met the national expected progression rate of 2 sub-levels, Kyle should be really proud of all his hard work; we know we are.

In Kyle’s final English assessment, he included lots of wonderful elements: punctuation for effect, similes, engaging content and wrote in a confident and assertive tone.

We are all really proud of Kyle’s enthusiastic and focused approach to learning, and we are really excited to see him back on the programme in September as he works towards his SATs and prepares for high school. Congratulations Kyle!

‘Kyle has been one of my most enthusiastic, yet also respectful, students this year. He is always keen to contribute and teach other students, and is a true asset to the class. Whoever teaches him next year will be lucky to have him.’

Jackson, Kyle’s Tutor
